Competition Teams

Designed for dedicated dancers who are ready to take their training and performance to the next level. With a focus on technique, artistry, and strong performance quality, these audition-based teams provide opportunities to grow in a supportive, high-energy, and team-driven environment.

Mini Showcase

Ages 6-8

Mini Showcase offers our youngest dancers an exciting introduction to the competitive world in a fun, supportive environment. Throughout the season, dancers will train and prepare two routines—a jazz piece and a tap routine—to be performed during the spring competition season.

Led by Kimberly Stevenson, dancers will learn and perform two routines—one Jazz and one Tap—giving them the opportunity to explore different styles while building versatility. As part of the Showcase stream, the Mini team will also attend the same four competitions as our other showcase teams, experiencing the excitement of the stage alongside their peers.

Mini Showcase dancers are required to be enrolled in both Jazz and Tap as supplementary styles, with Ballet strongly recommended to support their training and technique in both styles.

Junior Showcase

Ages 10-12

Junior Showcase is led by Director Kimberly Stevenson and offers young dancers an exciting introduction to the competitive world. Throughout the year, dancers will train and prepare two routines to be performed during the spring competition season. These will include a Musical Theatre piece, along with either a Jazz or Hip Hop routine, depending on the group.

This program is designed to build confidence, performance skills, and a strong foundation—serving as a great stepping stone into our other showcase teams in the years to come.

Junior Showcase dancers must be in enrolled in Ballet and Jazz as supplementary styles. Acro is highly recommended.

Intermediate Showcase

Ages 10-14

Intermediate Showcase is designed for dancers who are quick to pick up choreography, able to retain and apply corrections from week to week, and motivated to work hard across all of their programming. A strong desire to excel, along with a commitment to fostering a positive and focused environment both in and out of the studio, is essential.

With a high level of expectation and intensity, this group is best suited for dancers who are ready to fully invest in their training and rise to the challenge.

Intermediate Showcase dancers must take Ballet, Hip Hop, and Jazz &/or Contemporary as supplementary styles. Acro is highly recommended.

Senior Showcase

Ages 13+

Senior Showcase is designed for experienced and versatile dancers with strong training in Jazz/Contemporary, Musical Theatre, and Hip Hop. This group is made up of dancers who pick up choreography quickly, retain and apply corrections week to week, and demonstrate a consistent drive to work hard across all programming—especially in Showcase.

A commitment to excellence, along with the ability to contribute to a positive and focused environment both in and out of the studio, is essential. With a high level of expectation and intensity, Senior Showcase is for dancers who are ready to fully invest in their training and thrive in a demanding, performance-driven setting.

Senior Showcase dancers must take Ballet, Hip Hop, and Jazz &/or Contemporary as supplementary styles. Acro is highly recommended.

Senior Showcase dancers must be available for rehearsals from August 29th- 30th, from 10:00am to 3:00pm.

Advanced Showcase

Ages 13+

Advanced Showcase is our highest-level competitive group, designed for dancers who lead by example both in and out of the studio. These dancers are held to an exceptional standard, demonstrating responsibility, maturity, and a commitment to setting the tone for those around them.

This group is made up of individuals who are driven to push boundaries—true “state changers” who consistently raise the bar in work ethic, attitude, and skill. Dancers are expected to train diligently in every program, take initiative in their preparation, and show a strong, self-motivated desire to grow as both technicians and performers.

With an intense level of commitment and accountability, Advanced Showcase is for dancers who are ready to fully invest, challenge themselves daily, and lead with passion and purpose.

Advanced Showcase dancers must take Ballet, Hip Hop, and Jazz &/or Contemporary as supplementary styles. Acro is highly recommended.

Advanced Showcase dancers must be available for rehearsals from August 24th-27th from 10:00am-3:00pm.

Junior Hip Hop Team

Ages 10-13

Junior Hip Hop Team is led by the incredible Chris Bonus, whose experience includes choreographing for top-tier competitions such as Body Rock, VIBE, Hip Hop International, and World of Dance. Having taught across BC and internationally, Chris brings a unique and inspiring approach to both teaching and choreography that motivates dancers to grow and perform at their best.

This team focuses on developing a dynamic hip hop routine that blends strong foundations in a variety of street styles with the eye-catching choreography Chris is known for. Dancers will be expected to work hard, retain choreography week to week, apply corrections, and contribute positively as leaders within The Happening community.

Junior Hip Hop Team members are required to take a minimum of two Hip Hop or Street Styles offerings per week at the studio, supporting their growth and commitment to the team.

Senior Hip Hop Team

Ages 13+

Senior Hip Hop Team is led by the incredible Chris Bonus, whose work includes choreography for world-renowned competitions such as Body Rock, VIBE, Hip Hop International, and World of Dance. With teaching experience across BC and internationally, Chris brings a distinctive and inspiring approach that challenges dancers to grow, perform, and find their unique voice.

This team focuses on creating a powerful hip hop routine that blends strong foundations in a range of street styles with the dynamic, eye-catching choreography Chris is known for. The standard for Senior dancers is set high—members are expected to be deeply committed to their training, actively seeking opportunities to grow through our offerings, workshops, and the broader dance community. A strong work ethic, the ability to retain and refine choreography, and a drive to continuously level up are essential.

Senior team members are leaders within the studio—dancers who support and inspire those around them while holding themselves to a high standard in both attitude and effort. Senior Hip Hop Team dancers are required to take a minimum of two Hip Hop or Street Styles offerings per week at The Happening.

All the Details

    1. Take and apply constructive feedback quickly by showing an eagerness to learn and a drive for continued improvement.

    2. Demonstrate the ability to push performance quality through consistent efforts to build dance technique and strengthen choreography.

    3. Exhibit leadership qualities and the ability to be a team player; set an example through awareness by showing respect, listening, and being kind to instructors, peers, and the space around you.

    4. Have the ability to manage time efficiently in the rehearsal space. Show accountability by arriving early, coming prepared, and setting yourself up to focus mentally & physically.

  • Anyone is welcome to audition for our Competition Teams. While not everyone may be placed on their first try, the audition process is a valuable and positive experience. It allows our faculty to see your interest, commitment, and openness to feedback—qualities that are essential for growth. We encourage dancers to view auditions as an opportunity to learn, improve, and take the next step in their training.
