Meet the Choreographers

Isaac Gasangwa, widely known as Izo Dreamchaser, is a distinguished creator, educator, and leading ambassador for African cultures in Vancouver. Hailing from Rwanda, where dance is a way of life, he pioneered the country's first dance festival in 2011 and co-founded its inaugural dance studio at Club Rafiki, aiding post-genocide rebuilding by providing a purposeful outlet for orphans.

Relocating to Vancouver in 2014, Isaac recognized the need for greater African representation in the arts scene. In 2017, he founded Afro-Beats Van to promote African heritage through dance classes and performance opportunities, inspiring community connection and actively addressing social issues. His pioneering dedication in Vancouver has led to significant artistic achievements, including the annual BVAN (Black Vancouver Artistry Night) awards.

Isaac's commitment to the stage has resulted in sold-out productions, such as "The African Dream" (2023). He continued this success with the critically acclaimed African dance theatre show, "GEOMETRY OF POWER," which premiered in December 2025 at the Scotiabank Dance Centre. This powerful production deeply explored the lasting effects of the 1884 Berlin Conference on contemporary life. Through his unwavering dedication, Izo Dreamchaser continues to educate, inspire, and preserve the rich tapestry of African culture in Vancouver.
