Here is a short list of our most common questions!

Many of these are addressed in our handbook or throughout the website –

links have been added to guide you to the right place.

Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any other questions!

When does the season start?

Our Regular Season (Dancers aged 3-17 taking weekly classes) starts each September, and runs all the way until the recital in June. The season is not broken up into two sessions, as is common in community centres in Vancouver. For this reason, we do not allow registration in January.

When can I register?

Regular Season: Registration opens each  April 1st for the following September, and

runs through the end of each September. Then registration is closed for the season.

Most classes fill quickly and if you are  interested in a spot, it is important to  register as early as possible.

Adult: Registration opens each April for  all three of the following season’s Adult Class sessions. You can register for an  Adult Class session any time prior to the session beginning, and into the second  week of the class.

My dancer has been dancing for x years, and we'd like to join The Happening. What level should they register in?

If your dancer is coming from another studio, and would like to know which classes they should register in for greatest success, please email us. We will work with you to create a class schedule that suits your needs and their level. Our class level descriptions can be found here.

How long is the commitment when I register?

Regular Season: September through June. This is a ten-month commitment.

Adult: 9 weeks per session. Session Start dates are: September 21 2020, January 4

2021, and March 29 2021.

Do you offer drop-in classes?

No, unfortunately we do not. Classes at The Happening fill so quickly that there is no space to hold for drop ins during the start of the season. If you are interested

register now!

Can I try a class before registering?

Unfortunately, no. We recommend coming to our summer programs to get a feel for what The Happening is about. We have many summer options to choose from.

Adult: We don’t offer trial enrolments for our Adult classes.

What is the cost?

Regular Season: a detailed breakdown of our pricing can be found hereAlso look in our handbook on pages 9 & 10.

Adult: We offer three 9- week sessions of dance. The adult dance styles we offer are

Contemporary ($165.38 +GST), Ballet ($165.38 +GST) and Hip Hop ($165.38 +GST)

Adult Contemporary and Hip Hop are not in the 2020/2021 schedule yet, but we are

hoping with some time we will be able to find a spot for them! Keep looking back if

you are interested.

What is the refund policy?

Please see our page on refund policy.

What do dancers wear?

On pages 13-15 of our

student handbook you’ll find a chart outlining what is to be worn for each class. All recommended styles can be purchased at The Dance Shop (located at 1089 West Broadway). The Dance Shop also has our recommendations on file. A discounted rate of 10% will apply when you are purchasing the required

clothing/tights/shoes recommended in the handbook. New this season, Just Imagine on the first floor of the Kids Market on Granville Island, also stocks many of our styles.

Can my child compete?

THE HAPPENING offers the opportunity for students to do solos, duets, trios, or small groups for competition season. These can be any style: Hip Hop, Tap, Lyrical, Contemporary, Musical Theatre, Jazz, or Ballet. If you’re interested in competing, please contact

to discuss this option before

What is showcase?

Junior, Intermediate, and Senior Showcase are audition-based groups that

rehearse/train for an additional 2-4 hours per week. These groups compete in a

minimum of 2 competitions each Spring, and are given additional performance

opportunities subject to availability.

Auditions are held each September – all students are welcome to audition!

Read more about Showcase here on Pages 15 & 16 of the Student Handbook

Will there be a year-end recital?

Yes, the year-end recital is held on Saturday June 12th 2021 at The Centre in

Vancouver for Performing Arts. All classes will perform a piece, and all students

have the option to be in a studio-wide Intro and Outro number. We run the entire

show twice, once for a matinee, and once in the evening. Parents, family and friends

will purchase tickets in advance of the show to either show, or both!

Who provides the costumes for the year-end recital?

A costume fee is charged for each registration. These funds are used by the studio to purchase costumes for the year-end recital. Costumes will be given to students as they arrive in the weeks prior to the recital. Students/parents are responsible to provide: shoes, socks/tights, make-up, hair styling, and again the studio will provide the costume from the fee you paid in September.

Do you offer summer programs?

We do! We have camps for Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced dancers in July and August.
We also offer a soccer + hip hop camp, and our competitive dancers have the option of training in the summer.
