Regular Season: Registration opens each April for the following September, and runs through the end of each September. You want to register early as classes fill quickly!
 
Adult: Registration opens each April for all three of the following season’s Adult Class sessions. 
You can register for an Adult Class session anytime prior to the session beginning, and into the
second week of the class.

When can I register?

Regular Season: September through June.
Adult: 9 weeks per session. Session Start dates are: September 16, January 6, and March 30.

How long is the commitment when I register?

Regular Season: If space exists in the class, we offer drop-in classes/trial enrolments during the month of September each year, to allow students the chance to try a new dance style or level before committing to the full season. There is a $20.00 ($19.05 + GST) drop-in fee per class.
 
Adult: No, we do not offer Drop-in classes for our adult classes. We ask that you make a 9-week
commitment to the instructor, studio, and your dancing peers.

Do you offer drop-in classes?

Regular Season: We offer trial enrolments in the month of September only. If your child has special needs and requires a trial class at another time, please contact
info@thehappeningdance.com to discuss options. There is a $20.00 ($19.05 + GST) drop-in fee per class.
 
Adult: We don’t offer trial enrolments for our Adult classes.

Can I try a class before registering?

Regular Season: a detailed breakdown of our pricing can be found here. And in our handbook on page 8.
Adult: We offer three 9- week sessions of dance. The adult dance styles we offer are
Contemporary ($150 +GST), Ballet ($150 +GST) and Hip Hop/Tap Combo ($195 +GST together, $120 +GST separate).

What is the cost?

Regular Season: There is a $100 deposit charged per class upon registration, as well as a $30 + GST registration fee charged per year, per family. These fees are non-refundable, with no exceptions.

 

Tuition and costume fee will be refunded (pro-rated for attended classes) if a class is dropped within the first 2 weeks of the season. Classes dropped after the first 2 weeks will not receive a full refund. 

 

Half of the tuition amount will be refunded for classes dropped between the third week of classes and the last week of classes in the Fall semester. Costume fees will not be refunded. No tuition or costume fee refunds will be offered for classes dropped after the studio closes for
Christmas Break, or at anytime through the end of the season.
 
The Happening Dance Company reserves the right to withdraw students who have been registered in the incorrect age or level category. A new class will be recommended, or remaining tuition will be refunded.
 
An instructor may withdraw a student from a class if the student consistently refuses to abide by the studio etiquette as outlined in the handbook. If a student is withdrawn from a class or dismissed from the studio due to unresolved etiquette concerns, no refunds will be offered.

What is the refund policy? 

On pages 11-12 of our student handbook you’ll find a chart outlining what is to be worn for each class. All recommended styles can be purchased at The Dance Shop (located at 1089 West Broadway). The Dance Shop also has our recommendations on file. A discounted rate of 10% will apply when you are purchasing the required clothing/tights/shoes recommended in the handbook. New this season, Just Imagine on the first floor of the Kids Market on Granville Island, also stocks many of our styles.

What do I wear?

THE HAPPENING offers the opportunity for students to do solos, duets, trios, or small groups for competition season. These can be any style: Hip Hop, Tap, Contemporary, Musical Theatre,
Jazz, or Ballet. If you’re interested in competing, please contact

Can my child compete?

Junior, Intermediate, and Senior Showcase are audition-based groups that rehearse/train for an additional 2-4 hours per week. These groups compete in a minimum of 2 competitions each Spring, and are given additional performance opportunities subject to availability. Auditions are held each September – all students are welcome to audition!

What is Showcase?

Yes, the year-end recital is held on Saturday June 13th at The Centre in Vancouver for Performing Arts. All classes will perform a piece, and all students have the option to be in a studio-wide Intro and Outro number. We run the entire show twice, once for a matinee, and once in the evening. Parents, family and friends will purchase tickets in advance of the show to either show, or both!

Will there be a year-end recital?

A costume fee is charged for each registration. These funds are used by the studio to purchase costumes for the year-end recital. Costumes will be given to students as they arrive in the weeks prior to the recital. Students/parents are responsible to provide: shoes, socks/tights, make-up, hair styling. The studio will provide the costumes.

Who provides the costumes for the year-end recital?

We do! We have camps for Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced dancers in July and August.
We also offer a soccer + hip hop camp, and our competitive dancers have the option of training
in the summer.
